How To Shed The Winter Kilos

The weather is beginning to change and with it comes that nervousness for the warmer months, when we’re wearing fewer clothes and feeling a little more exposed.

Not to fear! There are small changes you can make to feel more confident in your skin.

 

1. Make the simplest swaps

Can you swap full sugar soft drink for the diet or zero version? A regular can of Coca-Cola contains 161 calories, whereas in Coke Zero you will find 0. Be careful of some fruit juices or other ‘healthy’ beverages – you might find they contain lots of added sugar.

 

2. Incorporate a high protein breakfast into your routine 

Did you know that a high protein breakfast can help you lose weight? Studies suggest that a high protein diet can help to curb your appetite and better help you know when you’re full, which keeps you from overeating. Some great high protein options include eggs, plain Greek yoghurt or a Formulite bar or shake.

 

3. Try to include half a plate of salad or non-starchy vegetables for lunch and dinner 

A lot of non-starchy vegetables (think greens, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower) are high in hunger-busting fibre and packed full of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. Include half a plate of veggies means you are automatically reducing your potion size without actually decreasing the volume you’re consuming. This means you’re still feeling satisfied at the end!

 

4. Pre-prepare your snacks for the day 

You may find that once you start including more protein in your diet, you’re feeling less and less snacky. If you do need pick-me-up between meals, try and have these ready to go the night before so you’re portioning right.  Keep veggie sticks and hummus in the fridge, or opt for fresh fruit, nuts, or wholegrain popcorn. 5. The power of positive self-talk

Positive self-talk is keeping your inner dialogue helpful and optimistic, even if you’re finding things tough. When mapping out your weight loss plan, remember that there will likely be roadblocks. There are going to be highs and lows. Some days will be a struggle, other days you will feel amazing! But changing the way you speak to yourself can change your life. You’ll recover from setbacks quicker and easier, and you will get creative about overcoming challenges!
